About the WATO EX-20
What sets the WATO EX-20 apart from larger anaesthesia machines?
It is compact and on castors (880 mm wide with the breathing system, under 120 kg without vaporizers), yet it has a volume- and pressure-mode ventilator, electronic PEEP and two vaporizer positions. In short, a complete anaesthesia machine for routine surgery in less space.
Who sets up and operates the machine?
The anaesthetist decides the ventilation mode, tidal volume, PEEP and agent; a trained anaesthesia technician prepares the machine and runs the pre-use check before every case.
What needs replacing or refilling?
The CO₂ absorbent in the canister (about 1500 mL), and the water trap (6 mL) is emptied. Circuit parts in contact with exhaled gas are autoclaved, except the flow sensors, the O2 sensor and the pressure gauge. Order any spare part from customer service on 01212333328.
What if the power fails during surgery?
The built-in battery keeps ventilation going for 90 minutes (new, fully charged battery at 25 °C), and after the first low-battery alarm it runs at least 5 more minutes. The machine runs on 100–240 V.
What happens if oxygen pressure drops?
The machine sounds the O2 supply failure alarm, N2O shuts off by itself, and the mechanical O2-N2O link keeps the mixture at no less than 25% oxygen.
